Zimbabwe is set to revolutionize its energy sector with the launch of its inaugural mega plant dedicated to green hydrogen production in Bulawayo. This groundbreaking initiative began as an ice-breaking project proposed by a key stakeholder and, following a thorough board meeting, a committee was appointed to evaluate the project’s viability. This committee is under the leadership of Engr. Williams Kubhanga, an Industrial and Manufacturing Engineer and an accredited project manager with extensive experience in the energy and construction industry. Mr. Descent Sibasa, the Finance Manager, has been appointed as his deputy due to his crucial input in the feasibility study.

The Energy Center will encompass a range of energy solutions beyond green hydrogen, such as LPG depots, a petroleum station, and solar system installations. This diversified approach reflects a strong commitment to enhancing the nation’s energy sources while promoting sustainability.

Well-constructed roads and pavements will ensure easy access to facilities, enhancing operational efficiency

Harnessing renewable energy to produce green hydrogen, significantly reducing carbon emissions and contributing to a greener future.

Featuring an LPG depot with six strategically placed stations to increase the availability of alternative fuels.

A modern petroleum station will complement renewable initiatives, ensuring a balanced energy offering.

A 175 kW solar system installation will further underscore the commitment to renewable energy.

The financial framework for the Energy Center reflects a thorough approach to funding and expense management:

Total Expenses: Approximately $1.08 million, covering equipment procurement, construction, and operational costs.
Equipment Procurement: Allocating around $344,725 for essential equipment, ensuring state-of-the-art facilities.
Hydrogen Production Costs: Anticipated to rise gradually as production capacity ramps up.
Revenue Projections
The Energy Center is expected to generate substantial revenue through:

Petrol and Diesel Sales: Over $1.5 million.
LPG Sales: Approximately $1.7 million.
Hydrogen Gas Sales: Initial projections of around $144,000, with growth expected as production increases.
Additional Sales: Revenues from fast food, convenience shop, solar shop, and liquor store sales will contribute significantly to financial health.

Under the capable leadership of Engr. Williams Kubhanga, the project is set to flourish. With his background as an Industrial and Manufacturing Engineer and accredited project manager, along with his vast experience in the energy and construction sectors, he is well-equipped to steer the project to success. Mr. Descent Sibasa’s expertise as the Finance Manager further solidifies the project’s financial planning, ensuring it meets both local and national energy demands.

The Energy Center is poised to create numerous jobs during both construction and operational phases, fostering local economic development. By investing in renewable energy, Zimbabwe is moving towards reducing its carbon footprint and enhancing energy independence.

As the Energy Center in Bulawayo begins construction, it symbolizes Zimbabwe’s commitment to a sustainable and diversified energy future. With Engr. W. Kubhanga at the forefront and Mr. D. Sibasa supporting him, the project is set to make a lasting impact on the energy sector, economy, and environment. Stay tuned for updates as we embark on this exciting journey towards renewable energy innovation!
